Student Talents Shine at Community Events

Hello MSA friends,

Rock stars, and princes, and elementary school children—oh my!

The last few days have been full of community-centric events for our MSA students in rock band and in theatre.

On Tuesday night, our collective of rock band students, parents, and friends packed the Novato Hopmonk stage. All six bands performed an original song crafted collectively by the band. I was not only impressed with the growth and the musical talent but, as usual, by the sweet and supportive community-packed audience—it was all smiles, and fun, and support.

Today we enjoyed an appreciative audience of another sort, actually another age bracket. Our neighborhood elementary school Rancho sent practically the whole school walking to the Center for the Arts for a school day performance of MSA Theatre’s Once Upon A Mattress. All TK through 4th grade students, teachers, chaperones, and even Principal Nam joined in the musical adaptation of the princess and the pea tale with our high school actors greeting the students in character and costume and spending intermission teaching several of the students dance moves on stage. SO. MUCH. FUN! It was rock star status and fun on another level.

When we collaborate and adapt and share our creativity outside the usual structures of the typical school day, our young artists give back to the community. We are not only entertained but also quite proud.

Warmly,

Michelle Cortez
