Advanced Drawing & Painting students teamed up with Lynwood first graders recently for a powerful, bilingual art projected rooted in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). Inspired by the book The Grand Hotel of Feelings, high school artists visited Lynwood classrooms to talk about how emotions visit us, living inside us for a little while before “checking out” so new feelings can “check in.” First graders then translated their current “checked-in” feelings into abstract drawings using color, line and shape.
Next Sculpture & Ceramics 2 students transformed students’ drawings into 3D masterpieces. Once complete MSA students presented the first grade artists to surpise them with the sculptures inspired by their art (pictured above).
