Volunteers Make Magic

This last fall, we got the all clear to return to a normal school year and back to the many in-person events. We faced the challenge of so many of our experienced, veteran families having graduated during COVID. Many of the families returning to school had never been to a Big Band Dance, Divine Wine, Soiree or Showcase in person. Our freshman families hadn’t even been to our virtual events during COVID. But parents stepped up anyway.

It takes over 100 parent and student volunteers and countless volunteer hours to pull off one of our major fundraisers. We have parents donate wine, water, snacks, ice, napkins, and soft drinks to support our volunteers, student performers, and guests. We always need a tech crew to move, set up, and run all the lights and sound. Our volunteers move tables, print name tags, sort tablecloths, hang decorations, make centerpieces, unpack glasses and flatware, do food prep and service, pour wine, greet and check-in guests, check-in volunteers, put together raffle prizes, sell raffle tickets, work on the live auction crew, be green room monitors and stage managers, bus tables, check coats, and stay after to clean up and pack up and unload equipment at school.

What is often said about our community of volunteers is that they do not just show up, they show up with good humor, generous spirit, and boundless patience and flexibility, and energy. Volunteerism is not just a means to raise money, but it is about building a thriving and enriching community and showing our students that their ability to improve upon their passions every day matters to us.
