Hello, Arts Friends,
MSA students are adorable when you meet them “in the wild.” During 6th period today, I saw a group working out footage from the Cinematic Arts project they were working on. The setting? A high school hallway. That’s relevant! The characters? I didn’t have time to catch the details before I was off to observe in the theatre class.

Our junior and senior actors were reading student scripts selected by our community partner, Sandcastle Theatre, and up for consideration for MSA theatre students to take on in directing and acting roles. What a rich circle read of smart scripts! Ms. Hee was sensitive and knowledgeable in facilitating conversations about new work and its importance for young actors in university and professional programs.
I finished the school day with a conversation with one of our science teachers about her engaging experiments in her AP Environmental Science class. It was fun for us to connect the problem solving, collaboration, and creativity from MSA classes to the achievement she is seeing in her Advanced Placement science labs. In the halls, in the studios, and in the classrooms, we develop practical skills and confidence so that our young people thrive. I am so grateful for the adorable cast of characters throughout our school.
With love and appreciation,
Michelle Cortez
MSA Director/NHS Co-Principal
P.S. Families—can I ask a favor of you? If you haven’t already, please take two minutes to fill out the 26/27 Intent to Return Form – link here. We could also really use more families completing the annual Family Survey—a few more questions and a bit more time but less than 100 families have taken the survey and our participation rate and results really matter. Thank you!
