Campus is a-buzz

Hello MSA communities,

Are you ready?

Campus is a-buzz with activity as we gear up for the start of school on Thursday, August 24.

New families—thank you to those note-taking diligent folks who asked about NHS Freshmen Orientation on Aug. 17. You recorded it correctly back in the spring, but campus construction moved orientation to the first day of school. Here’s the link to our NHS Welcome Newsletter from our awesome new principal, Liz Seabury, chock full of important beginning of the year news helpful to families at all grade levels.

I am crossing my fingers I will see many of you in person at either Town Hall next Monday night or at one of our three regional Back-to-School get togethers (aka zip code parties) held in the next two weekends. Some of you may have also received invites for departmental activities before school starts (Theatre, Cinematic Arts, and Dance in particular).  Don’t worry everyone else: the rest of the departments will weave in community builders into the first few days of school. The goal of these beginning of year MSA events is to help students and families feel comfortable in our intersectional communities and set ourselves up for a fabulous year.

At every all-MSA event, you’ll hear me talk about “Arts for All,”  which is our collective work to ensure access to the benefits of a quality arts education for all students not only within MSA and NHS but also working with younger students throughout NUSD and with community partners who seek out our artsy young people. I get so excited about our creative work and about working with YOU and your inspiring kids. Let’s connect and co-create a contagious enthusiasm for our shared love of the arts.

Hope to see you soon,

Michelle Cortez
