Young Artists Connecting

Hello, beautiful people,

Last weekend was awesome! We had our sweet MSA applicants with their equally lovely families buzzing in and out of the NHS library all day Saturday then two awesome dance shows Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Young Artists Connecting 1

The potential, hope, joy, and creativity were palpable throughout the day—it was almost as if you could see the silken strings of common interests and relationships forming as current students guided incoming kiddos in and out of the MSA classrooms.

Sunday afternoon, at the MSA Dance Choreography Showcase, I saw some of the same adorable 8th grade faces showing up as audience members and fans of our current dancers.  What many folks don’t always see is the existing connections and collaborations across MSA programs and students. The talented MSA photography senior Vida Ferrance captured some gorgeous shots of our dancers this weekend (we’ll share more of those next week!). We love that our generous dancers give so much and receive love back – all those good vibes make for beautiful, vulnerable, expressive, and strong art.  If you were lucky enough to catch it, you know what I mean.

Young Artists Connecting 2

For those who missed the dance performances last weekend, don’t worry. MSA Theatre is up this weekend with Words and Music featuring our one-act version of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. It’s a provocative take with themes mirroring our current partisan divides and manipulation of public opinion in a program mixed with songs, monologues, and scenes, many on the way to the Lenaea Theatre Festival next weekend.

Whether physically or visually stunning or provocative and deep, our young artists put themselves out there to connect with the work, the world, the audience, the community, and each other. We thank you so much for your part in supporting the kids and the program.

With so much love for all parts of our sweet communities,

Michelle Cortez
